A Roof Over Their Heads
On August 15th, a team of five Caisse employees put on their hard hats and headed to the construction site to lend a hand. The agenda for the day was to cut and install drywall on the ceiling. A total of 50 volunteers were on hand that day.
Christine Pelletier, employee at the Caisse Provencher Branch, did not hesitate to join the team: “I was so happy to be there to help. I lived in St. Boniface for many years and wanted to give back to my community.”
Marcel Gauthier, Director at Caisse Financial Group, was also eager to help. “I enjoy volunteering and making a positive difference in someone else’s life. It was also fun to get out of the office and work outdoors.”
Anta Mbaye, a mother of three children originally and from Senegal, is one of the future owners of the new home. “There are no words to describe how wonderful it is to be living this experience. I will always remember when the truck came and installed the second floor. Everyone stopped and watched. It was magical. I filmed it all. Thanks to all the volunteers, my house is taking shape.”
Caisse Financial Group launched a Helping Hands Campaign to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. The members and employees of Caisse were asked to make a donation from July 30 to August 31 on the Habitat for Humanity website (Caisse donation page) and Caisse will match all donations received up to a maximum of $2,000.
Anta Mbaye will never forget this display of solidarity: “The Habitat for Humanity slogan, Every hand makes a difference, speaks to me. I can only think of one thing to say and that is, Thank You!
When Marcel Gauthier drives by the finished home at 376 Enfield Cresent, he says that he will definitely have a smile on his face.
